ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: JA
WE'RE SO EXCITED TO FEATURE YOU ON DARKNET! WE LOVE HAVING YOU AS A PART OF THE VAPOR95 TEAM AND WE'VE JUST COLLABORATED TO LAUNCH ONE OF YOUR DESIGNS! CAN YOU TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE TIGHT SPACES DESIGN, AND YOUR ARTISTIC JOURNEY?
The piece is inspired by the connection between the brain and how we view our individual self and our bodies.
My artist journey started when I moved to Los Angeles! I’ve been painting and creating for years but it wasn’t until I moved to California when I realized that this was my passion and career path.
ARE YOU WORKING ON ANYTHING ELSE IN COLLABORATION WITH VAPOR95? WHAT INSPIRED THESE WORKS?
Im currently working on a series of black anime characters for Vapor95, which is focusing around the representation of alternative black girls in todays time. I can’t stress how important it is for me to implement reflections of myself and girls like me into my work.
DO YOU LISTEN TO MUSIC WHILE WORKING ON YOUR ART? IF SO, PLEASE SHARE YOUR FAVORITE ARTISTS WITH US!
It’s a must! It’s apart of the process!
I always listen to mixes by my favorite black female artist, Dj Starrza, along with classical music, and binaural beats.
EVERY ARTIST FACES DAYS WHERE THEY LACK INSPIRATION AND DRIVE TO CREATE. HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THESE MOMENTS?
In moments like these, I explore! Art is everything and everything is art! I checkout a new shop, go to the park or hike, meditate - anything! And by that time I’m already inspired and ready to create again!
IF YOU WEREN'T AN ARTIST, WHAT WOULD YOU DO FOR A LIVING?
If I wasn’t an artist I would be a neuropsychologist! I’m fascinated by the relationship between the physical brain and human behavior.
WHAT IS YOUR ULTIMATE DREAM TO ACCOMPLISH WITH YOUR ART?
My ultimate dream is to be in museums all over the world and create art that makes people feel.
IF YOU COULD SEND A TEXT TO EVERY PHONE ON THE PLANET IN ONE 160 CHARACTER MESSAGE, WHAT WOULD IT SAY?
If I could blast a text to every phone in the planet, I wouldn’t need 160 characters, all it would say is “EXPERIENCE ALL”.
FINALLY, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO UP-AND-COMING ARTISTS WHO WANT TO PURSUE THEIR PASSION?
What I would say to an up-and-coming artist is to continue to create and share your work to the world. Display your heart properly no matter the reception & even within baby steps there’s progress, there’s growth. Everyone has an audience, you just need to find it!
