SIPPIN’ ON VAPORWAVE VOL I: Thanksgiving Edition
There are a lot of reasons to love vaporwave. It’s more than music. It’s more than aesthetics.
The best vaporwave experiences happen when you fully immerse yourself in the album’s atmosphere. The more senses that are involved, the deeper the immersion becomes.
What better way to fully appreciate the mood of your favorite vaporwave album than pairing it with the perfect cocktail? Welcome to SIPPIN' ON VAPORWAVE series!
First up: Thanksgiving.
One of the most important contributions to the Mallsoft genre, this landmark album is the ideal listen during Thanksgiving week. It’s soft, meditative and puts listeners into a nostalgic trance. There’s a good reason it’s known as one of the best albums to introduce to people who aren’t familiar with the genre. It was one of my very first vaporwave experiences, and I haven't looked back since!
Each track guides the listener through the aisles of an abandoned supermarket late at night, so popping this classic into your headphones as you make your way through a crowded Kroger searching for green bean casserole ingredients makes a dreaded errand more zen.
And isn’t that what vaporwave is all about? Taking something mundane and every day and seeing the beauty inherent in it?
Once you’re back home with your ingredients, you deserve a treat! Keep the calm going by putting “슈퍼마켓Yes! We’re Open” on repeat and immersing yourself in the Muzak as you sip on this unapologetically sweet drink, named for the album’s tenth track (“Aisle 8 (Drink Specials, Warm Evenings, and Rooftop Views”).
Aisle 8
-Whip up your favorite hot cocoa recipe (make it fancy with dark chocolate, or keep it nostalgic with Swiss Miss)
-Add ½ a shot of Bailey’s Irish Cream
-Add ½ a shot of vanilla vodka
-Top with pastel marshmallows.
Cheers!
